- UTA ARTIST SPACE
Catch Me held at UTA Artist Space in Beverly Hills was one of the most ambitious solo exhibitions of Nicholas’ career, featuring an expansive collection of never-before-seen paintings created over two years that showcased Nicholas’ stylistic evolution and artistic maturation. While the preceding two years were primarily defined by restrictions and confinements, Catch Me captured a spirit of freedom and experimentation.
Publication
Published by UTA Artist Space in 2023, this catalogue captures Kontaxis’ vibrant artistry with twenty-three full-color reproductions that celebrate his dynamic use of color and texture.
Featuring an insightful essay by Arthur Lewis, the publication provides a deeper understanding of Kontaxis’ creative journey and his bold, expressive approach to contemporary abstract painting.
The namesake of the exhibition is “Catch Me” — a historic safety net painted by Nicholas, and his first sculptural work. The Browder Life Safety Net, invented in the 1800s and used until the 1980s, is a type of rescue equipment formerly used by firefighters. As a canvas for Nicholas’ markings, “Catch Me” carries both Nicholas’ layers and the layers of the canvas history, in a way that is collectively transfiguring.

I’m Lonely, 2021
The extraordinary use of color and enormous scale of Nicholas’ paintings blow me away. Watching him mature artistically and continually reinvent his body of work inspires my own recognition of the human capacity for growth and transformation. This is one of the most thrilling moments for UTA Artist Space and I’m grateful to have had this opportunity to work with Nicholas and his family.
